How It Works!

Waterproofing dates back for years all the way to animal fats and waxes, through to the modern day with silicones and fluorocarbons. With each development in technology the performance has increased, however it is not always the most modern product that suitable the material, which is why we use compounds that suit and perform best for the end use; waxes and hydrocarbons for some leather applications and the most modern chemistry for textiles. We have recently moved past the use of some fluorocarbons to improve performance and reduce our environmental impact. This reinstates our commitment to product development and performance for everything and everybody.

Fabric Cleaning

Our anti bacterial cleaner has been developed to effectively bond with dirt partials and easily rinse the dirt and detergent away leaving the fabric ready for re proofing if required. Our cleaner is based on the compounds used in garment and technical fabric manufacture so is perfect for this use and as a result will not affect any coating, laminate or DWR finishes as long as the care label is followed. Maintain the fabric of technical clothing clean ensures that the features of the garment can perform to the best of their design. If a fabric is dirty or the DWR finish is worn then any water on the surface of the fabric will reduce the performance and extent drying times. The anti bacterial compound within many of our products is silver based, this heavy metal stops the bacterial multiplying and therefore as bacteria naturally dies there is no clone and without this clone the smell is not produced and there are no bacteria to pass on infections.

Fabric Proofing

As with all consumer applied reproofing products, they cannot make a fabric impermeable. Actually what is happening is the treatments that adhere to the surface of the fabric, DWR, becoming a barrier for the fabric against water and dirt. They change the contact surface tension so that water droplets are maintained rather than dispersing. When this DWR is getting old the fabric is exposed and the water will soak into the surface fabric, ìWetting Outî. By maintain this DWR the fabric can perform as designed and protect the user from the elements.

Footwear Care

Footwear is similar to fabric as more modern items are using the same technologies for both garments and footwear; membranes, fabrics, wicking linings and DWR finishes to the exteriors. Our fabric footwear product collection uses much of the same base compounds as our fabric products and perform in much the same way, effectively cleaning yet maintain the surface treatments from manufacturer and our proofers offer the same protection. However when it comes to leather products things are different. Cleaning should be effective yet care enough not to dry out leathers and as leather was once living it needs special care and conditioning. If a leather was just to be proofed it would crack under use through internal dryness. This often happens with very traditional products such as Dubbin. Our leather cream product are compounds of two levels, a proofing compounds to provide protection and a smaller compound that conditions and cares to the leather itself. Suede and Nubuck leather can become aged easily if not cared for correctly our conditioner for suede bring together waterproof finish, conditioning and also a texture lifting element to maintain the feel of both suede and nubuck.
